Extra Ancestral's dance classes are taught and curated by Rachel Hernandez – the supporting and guest teachers are drawn from masters of the craft ranging from West African traditions to leading proponents of the diaspora from Brasil, Cuba and North America. Our classes offer all communities the opportunity to participate in ancestral practices and traditions supportive of freedom, collectivity and personal growth. For centuries indigenous practices have sought to balance the relationship between person, community and nature. Dance combines with rhythm, to ground each of us personally in our relationship with our ancestors, the Earth and our history. The Yoruba culture of Isese becomes Candomblé in Brasil, becomes Lukumi in Cuba, becomes our path back to honoring each and any of our ancestral origins.
Extra Ancestral offers a monthly selection of online classes via EA Online. Our teachers also offer a range of classes at live venues locally and nationally. CLICK HERE to join EA Online.
